Cheerleading is a sport that has been around for many years. It is a competitive and athletic activity that requires skill, precision, and coordination. There are many basic motions that are used in cheerleading. These motions are important for creating routines and stunts.

There are a few basic motions that all cheerleaders learn and use. Even when you advance to higher levels in your cheer career, you will still use these basic motions. Knowing each motion can help you learn new routines quickly and easily. Performing the motion correctly helps the entire squad appear uniform and sharp during performances.

There are three main motions in cheerleading: the tuck, the extension, and the punch. The tuck is when you bring your legs up to your chest and clasp your hands together. The extension is when you extend your legs out straight in front of you and reach for the sky. The punch is when you snap your legs down to the ground and then jump up into the air. You can do these motions together or separately depending on the routine.

The Jump

One of the most basic motions of a cheerleading routine is the jump. Jumping is a way to get high off the ground quickly and to show your power as a cheerleader. When you jump, make sure to extend your body fully and land softly on both feet.

The Tuck

Another basic motion is the tuck. The tuck is used to spin around quickly or to propel yourself into the air. When you tuck, make sure to keep your back straight and your legs together. Tucking also helps you get more height in your jumps. To do a tuck, start by bringing your knees up to your chest and clasping your hands together. Then, use your abs to curl yourself up towards your feet until your chin is close to your knees. Make sure that you keep your back straight and don’t let your head drop. To come out of the tuck, uncurl yourself and extend your legs straight out in front of you. Reach for the sky with your arms to get into the extension position.

The Kick

Another basic motion is the kick. The kick is used to propel yourself into the air or to add power to a jump. When you kick, make sure to extend your leg fully and snap your foot up towards your head. Kick with power and purpose to really show off your strength as a cheerleader.

The Punch

To do a punch, start by snapping your legs down to the ground. Then, jump up into the air and reach for the sky with your arms. Make sure to keep your legs together and pointed straight downwards. When you come back down to the ground, land softly on your feet and repeat the motion. You can do these motions together or separately depending on the routine.

The Straddle

A straddle is a wide stance used in cheerleading. To do a straddle, simply spread your legs as far apart as you can and hold the position. Make sure your feet are pointing in the same direction, and that your back is straight.

The Pike

A pike is a basic cheerleading position. To do a pike, extend your legs and pull your torso and head up towards the sky. Be sure to keep your back straight, and hold the position for a few seconds.
